The expert committee has selected three courtyards in Maribor that will receive professional support, community-based activities, and financial assistance as part of the project to help transform them into greener, more inclusive spaces. The most convincing entries were the courtyard of Vetrinjski dvor, submitted by KUD Coda, the courtyard at Koroška Street 18, submitted by MKC Maribor, and the block between Moša Pijade, Levstikova and Machova streets, submitted by local resident Zdenka P. Each has shown potential for community development, spatial improvement, and neighborhood connection.

The selected courtyards will enter a process that includes support from architecture and landscape experts, design and planning of the layout, preparation of a long-term maintenance plan, and organization of a community work action. In addition, they will receive one-time financial support in the amount of one thousand euros for material costs related to spatial improvements.

Initial meetings with all applicants have already taken place. Together with the project team, they defined the needs of the community and the spatial challenges of each location. Based on this input, two experts in architecture and landscape architecture prepared proposals tailored to the specific features of each courtyard. In the coming months, various activities will follow, leading to concrete interventions in the space. The aim is not only to improve the visual appearance of the courtyards but to encourage interaction and cooperation among residents, strengthen their sense of belonging to the neighborhood, and raise awareness of the importance of maintaining shared spaces. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance the long-term quality of life in the urban environment through a community-based approach.
