The Municipality of Kočevje and the Municipality of Slovenj Gradec have been selected in the call for local communities to transfer proven methods of community-based climate change mitigation and adaptation. In both towns, one courtyard will be chosen together with local residents and transformed into a green urban oasis.

The expert jury was convinced by their clear understanding of the importance of green spaces in urban centers, which are key to strengthening cities' resilience to climate change. The goal of the project is not only to improve the appearance of courtyards, but also to encourage social interaction, cooperation, and a stronger sense of community belonging.

At the initial meetings, we already outlined the first steps with both communities. In the coming weeks, a public call will be published to identify courtyards in Kočevje and Slovenj Gradec. This will be followed by community work actions, expert support from architects and landscape architects, and the implementation of spatial improvements, also supported by a one-time financial contribution of 1,000 EUR.
